IGN now has a G.I.Joe wiki… Here was my experience contributing to it.

08_CobraCommanderYou can check out the IGN wiki HERE and my work is spread through out but includes, Duke, Barrel Roll, DDP, Comic Oddities and plenty more. Of course I’m not the only one who worked on those entries, but at least other than Duke, I started those entries and did the majority of the work on them.

I found their wiki layout really smooth and easy to use. It was my first time editing a wiki but their was a prize on the line so I put in a few hours, sometimes just adding trivia to existing characters others just creating an unfleshed out stub using the suggest format so that others could fill in, but i loved getting into details as much as possible.

I ended up being a winner, and the wiki contest and the wiki itself were announced months ago but i hesitated to mention it on here as it took well past what the rules stated to find out who the winners were, and then even longer to receive prizes. I have no idea if this was the usual for IGN, but the silence went on long enough I haven’t bothered to continue editing, although I’m really thankful for the prize, and now that it’s cleared up might resume doing so. I wonder if something else was going on in the background? I know IGN was bought out this year.

Whatever the reason, the slow experience might give you pause if your after a prize, but the wiki contents are great and it’s not to late to keep making it interesting.

A review of Batman # 23 by Steve of Games and Comics London

Batman_USA_Flag_Logo2_POP_190_190.jpg

(Steve) Review of Batman #23

I hear echoes of Albert Camus and Louis Borges as the Red Hood lectures a battered and helpless Bruce Wayne in the flaming remains of his apartment.

“The randomness, the empty center. Stare into it and try to find meaning, you’ll go mad.” Camus could’ve written that – but it was Scott Snyder giving some tremendous depth to his incarnation of the Red Hood and flexing his writerly muscles in this philosophical and action-packed installment of Batman: Zero Year.

Snyder has done an incredible job with this villain. Its engrossing to try and see things from a villain’s perspective and Red Hood’s is a belief so common that it could easily be you or me beneath that mask. If you’ve ever been a few car-lengths behind a vicious auto accident, or if you’ve ever said “That could’ve been me…” You may be the Red Hood, and that is a brilliant feeling to take away from a comic book.

The villains aren’t the only ones who get their fair share of character development in this issue. Young Bruce Wayne continues down the path fate has drawn for him as he becomes Batman and we get a welcome but brief look into some more violence in Alfred’s past.

The artwork by this team continues to be great. While Capullo’s drawing is a little too Saturday-morning Cartoonish for my tastes, Miki takes a lot edge off with using dark colors and shading reminiscent of the film-noir era the World’s Greatest Detective was born out of.

Batman #23 is, in my not-so-humble opinion, the strongest showing of the Zero Year story arc so far and any fan of Batman or existential philosophy is doing their self a disservice by not picking it up while there may be some still around.

Tim Curry as the Joke in this terrifying for a kids cartoon clip (hear what could have been prior to Hamil)

Batman_USA_Flag_Logo2_POP_190_190.jpgBatman’s villain the Joker is just as iconic as the dark knight himself. While some might debate Ledger vs. Nicholson, fans of the 90’s animated series could easily point to Mark Hamil’s incarnation of the character as the voice they always hear in their head. The laugh he pulls off will forever be the joker in my mind for sure.

Recently i discovered that Mark Hamil wasn’t the original pic for the role, it was originally set to go to Tim Curry, but his take was deemed too scary for a kids cartoon. Below is a rare youtube clip that i have to agree is somewhat scary even as an adult!

Think now that Hamil has retired from the role we should get this back? Agree that he is too scary? let us know by jumping to the forum by clicking HERE.

MU (new) HULK review

I was very excited when I first saw the sculpt for the hulk. The earlier sculpt from the marvel universe line was so terrible that I settled for a pair of hulks from past movie lines to fulfill the Jade Giants place on my display shelf. I picked up the red and grey versions (as you will see below) so I was familiar with the sculpt of the toy.

newhulk1

The original mu hulk had lots of articulation but barley any of them worked. It was extra wide and mad while seem more squat and squished that brutish.

newmuhulkvsgreyhulk

Unfortunately This hulks is similarly full of barley functional joints, especially in the legs. While an improvement, I was hoping for more. I am also in sure why the my line continues to use high thigh swivels that don’t function, given hasbro’s recent move to reduced articulation I would think obviously non functioning joints would be the first to go to save money on parts. Marvel Universe Kraven Review

Thanks to my friend and Comic and Figure Addicts owner JJLecaros I got my hands on several hard to find Marvel universe figures. It seems like all Marvel universe are hard to find these days!

First up is famous Spider-Hunter Kraven.

kravenThis guy looks like Kraven. He is the ultimate hunter, who has taken down lions and  has a desire to hunt down truly dangerous prey like Spider-man. His sculpt is superb for a marvel universe figure which all too often feature the same molds and painted on details. It’s true is wrist and bicep wraps are painted on, but  the sculpting on his vest, belt, knees and wrapped boots more than make up for it.

The painting is done very well, I noticed no issues with unpainted areas or bleeding until reviewing the pics and noticed incredibly minor issues below the knee.  The way his eyes are painted make this head look truly villainous and unique to factory painted 1:18 scale heads of any line.

kravenbrokenleg

Unfortunately, my Kraven’s left foot was fused together and broke off. his right foot feels very flimsy as well.  This only bothers me slightly as i had plans for this head to become my Major Bludd, but still disappointing.

kravenhandHis thumb is fused to his middle finger which will limit the accessories he can hold.

kravenspear

his spear is so wavy! how could he possibly through this?  If it’s important to you you can’t attempt a procedure to fix it, soften the  plastic in boiling water, straighten and reinforce till it softens. I haven’t had the time try this, but it is often used by G.I.Joe customizers to address warps in plastic.

kravenrenegadesbluddStyling in a suit! Even if you don’t want this guy for Kraven this head looks excellent on many bodies. This body being from the Men In Black III line.  If I can find more of these guys in the wild, I’ll be picking up two more, as I do want a Kraven as well as having some of the cool parts (head, skulls on knees) to customize with.

kravenonthehuntHere Kraven is perched and hunting the batman with his super wavey spear.

I do not know how common the issues with the spear are, but both it and the leg hurt the figure greatly. If I Ignore the leg (surely not all of them are broken)  I’d give this guy an 8 out of 10 for excellent new parts and paint job.  If you can find him, grab him.
