Concept Art Digital Custom/repaint of The Loyal Subjects Blowtorch

theloyalsubjectsdigibashblowtorchinconceptcolorscheme

A bit back when we interviewed Jonathan Cathey on the Nerdrahtio Podcast (HERE) he mentioned that Blowtorch was  one of his favorites, and was in wave 2, and I instantly thought of this repaint potential. Here is! You may also realize that Hasbro is also putting out a figure based on this concept. Below you can find the concept art, first broke by Joe Declassified (Give them a like on Facebook HERE) and originally shared on Hisstank.  and I believe this image came from Bill Merkline’s personal collection from his time at Hasbro, (No clue who owns it now, if I need to credit someone else PLEASE let me know!)

check out the images below and if you like it and want to see it, be sure to let the Loyal Subjects know on their official FB group HERE:

The last video (for now) of the Marauder Task Force Figures

complete viper 2

Check out the video below to see more on this guy, check out the waist articulation a bit more and see some photos.  The full photo gallery is HERE, and I’ve added a Marauder Task Force Video playlist on our channel HERE.

In my book, these figures get a perfect 10/10.

Check out these amazing “AVERAGE JOE” t-shirts

wehavetshirts

Use the T-Shirt button above or click RIGHT HERE to head to the Zazzle store.

Just the first of many, these t-shirts are made to order in our zazzle store and feature 2 designs, one more classic looking, another more cartoony and are customizable for your taste.Basic version starts at 15.95, and discount codes are usually available right on the site.

Big thanks to Diana Davis for help with the classic version of the shirt, helping me get the image, and in both designs I received feedback from her, and Nerdrahtio contributors Tom and Dave.

Zazzle does the printing and set the cost. I do get a small portion (less than $1.75, actual amount varies per shirt) It’s a very small amount, and I actually could not set it lower than I did on the site. My goal is not to make a net profit, just to be closer to breaking even on the site. That portion will be used to cover audio hosting, website fees, as well as cover expenses already put toward the site (and due to some issues when switching to the Nerdrahtio name at the end of last year, expenses where much more than usual.)

Thanks for checking it out, these will be available indefinitely on our zazzle store, but that doesn’t mean you should wait. Zazzle usual as a special of some sort going, take advantage it if you dig the shirt.  Got feedback ? comment below, or hit us up @ nerdrahtio@gmail.com

Would you be interested in a Sightline (Gary Goggles) Vinyl (and why you should be if you are not)

goodbyegary

Gary Goggles Head was a vital member of the community of Joe fans. His work in Declassified allowed us to see images, and learn info we most likely never would have seen. More than just getting it out there, he brought “old guard” prototype collectors together with so many other types of fans that the community really transitioned into something entirely different than it was before him. His life was cut tragically short when his heart gave out while shoveling sno, due to an unknown heart condition. He left behind 3 kids, their mother, and a whole lot of dear friends.  His legacy in the community was so prolific that Hasbro named a figure to be released this year, Sightline, after him.  (You can hear more about Gary in our tribute episode to him HERE)

Drew Gaska photoshopped the following for us, since it came up in our recent podcast interview with Jonathan Cathey, CEO of the Loyal Subjects (Click Here for that full article and the audio), who was very willing to talk about and consider doing more modern Characters rather than just 80’s Joe and took particular note of the fan response to Sightline when announced at Joe con (a standing ovation… and a few people with moist eyes… okay at least me shedding a tear or two but I won’t rat anyone else out.

The first is more like the actual Sightline, figure (pictured below) but the second is has more character as a figure, and has Gary’s trademark arctic goggles.

If you would be interested in purchasing something like this in a future wave of Joe, PLEASE let The Loyal Subjects know on their facebook page or their official Facebook group. Jonathan assures me they have an ear out to their fans, and I believe him!

Even if you didn’t click the tribute podcast link above, the impact should be obvious.  Gary made a giant impact, and I think this connection Hasbro made with the fans was wonderful and a nice tribute to Gary.  Of all the Joe figures I would want in alternate style to have just a desk version, this would be the one. It has a great story behind it. (I am of course buying tons of these things, I mean one I’d even set on my work desk etc.)  The look is also bit more kid friendly, while not intended for kids, I’ve enjoyed my TMNT’s wtih my son, and I plan to do the same with future Joes. This would be a great way for Gary’s kids, for  all the kids who knew Gary to have a little piece of him, and a neat way to pass a story down to our kids.  -Sam

Nerdrahtio (and Tom Brooks) Interviews Josh Blaylock about Operation Nemesis and some Joe talk and even more!

operationnemesisThe Legendary Tom Brooks from Reasonably Intelligent Ramblings joined us as we interviewed Devils Due founder Josh Blaylock. We first discuss his new book, Operation Nemesis, the most serious thing we have ever talked about Nerdrahtio. You could read me review HERE, but as a reminder, it’s about a real genocide, real revenge, real war, and real court room drama, with Nazi’s, religious conflict and more.

We then turn to Josh Blaylock’s time with G.I.Joe (after a short trip talking about weird for 15 minutes or so) and other upcoming and ongoing comics published by Devils Due.

Finally Tom Brooks, Tom Mathias and myself (Sam) chat comic tv news, followed by FSS and other G.I.Joe talk with our news desk.

You can listen via the embedded player below or use the drop down menu above to locate us on Stitcher, Itunes or directly at our audio host: Podcast Garden.

Several images follow in relation to our Joe Talk but I first want to plug Tom Brook’s blog, click his happy mug to head over and check it out. There you will find tons of images of the FSS figures we end up talking about.  I’d also love for you to help add some images!  If yo ucould provide us with an image of heartwrencher from the DDP comic, or white guy varient Alpine we could host here (or maybe something else you here us talk about), we would appreciate it. Operation Nemesis Review: A Real World Assassination and War story from the writer who brought G.I.Joe Characters: Kamakura, Armada, Zanya and more to life.

operationnemesisI am most aware of Josh Blaylock’s work in the Devil’s Due era of G.I.Joe. Back in the early 2000’s his company, which he founded, brought Joe back into action in the comic world. He picked up after the Marvel Comic by Larry Hama, and threw in some nod’s to the toon, character twists, and brand new faces as he kicked off what would become the DDP Joeverse,I still lament the loss of it today. This is a very different book.

We had previously had Sam Wells, who also worked at DDP, on the podcast, and I knew he was going to have Josh Blaylock at his booth (Toy de Jour) at Joecon. I looked forward to meeting him for the first time in person. I don’t recall if we met until we were both at the Wake for Gary Head, and I think we ended up talking for near an hour. I asked him what he was doing now, and he shared with passion about this new graphic novel, and the history behind it. I know this is a long-winded intro to a review, but I felt like I need to share that this passion, shines through into the book and given the subject matter, not only can I see why, but I can greatly appreciate it and find common cause in the desire to share this story with as many as possible.

The Armenian genocide that happened in Turkey before WWII was shockingly brutal, and yet you may have never heard of it. This tale takes you through part of it, and shows you an act of vengeance, primarily through the eyes of Soghomon Tehlirian. His tale is astonishing. In 1921, he shot the former leader of Turkish Ottoman Empire in Berlin, Talaat Pasha, and Soghomon never denied it, yet walked away a free man. The vengeance killing opened the doors to spread news about the horrific slaughter of over 1,500,000 Armenians and other minorities, primarily Christian. Talaat Pasha claimed he was deporting them, but documents admit he was deporting them to their death.

This presentation of history can be hard to read at times but the visual format presents it in a unique and impactful way. The arrangement of newspaper clippings and additional sources for information draw you not only into the story but at least for this reader, drew my heart to the victims of this tragedy. The newspaper clipers also lengtehened the content of reading, giving you an extra bang for your book, although I think it is already worth the 18.99 cover price.

Silva’s art has a style that is refreshing in this era of super hero exposure. His art often is symbolic, captures movement, and seems more interested in conveying a story and emotion, than many other mainstream books would allow. This style is wonderful for story telling, but here as it’s paired with such a tragic story, it more powerful communicates emotion and that makes it perfect for what was written.

There are head shots, there is foul language, but it never feels gratuitous. It’s there because it’s real, and because we shouldn’t over gloss such an important piece of history, or it would lose much of its impact. Mature readers only, but please give this a read, everyone needs to know this story. It reminds us of an important lesson and tells us of a forgotten horror. History repeats, don’t be silent, don’t cover your eyes when you see evil on the March. Turkey still denies the events to this day, and attempts to silence talk about the massacres. Currently we see ISIS slaughtering Christians by the entire village, they are spiritual descendents of Talaat Pasha, who committed his crimes before Hitler. The silence of so many in the face of horror even emboldened Hitler as he said, ” Who, after all, still speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?” (August 1939, in preparation of the Invasion of Poland, as quoted within Operation Nemesis)

Spies, apparitions of a dead family, flashbacks, revenge, courtroom drama, an evil on Par with the Nazi’s and even Nazi’s themselves all presented only as comics could allow. Give this a read!

10/10

You can find it HERE on the Devils Due store, or HERE at Amazon.

(and I don’t give that score lightly or often)
