Nerdrahtio podcast: Not Picard reveals unreleased wax sculpts and More from Joe (very few of seen these!)

blueboardN

Not Picard (Patrick Stewart, but not that one) revealed some wonderful images to us for this interview. With him we Tom and I(Sam) dive into the early 00’s and the “new sculpt” era of Joe with unreleased wax sculpts, preproduction information, trivia, and somehow we even end up talking transformers too. You can use the drop down “podcasts” menu above to listen via Itunes, stitcher, or our audio host but for your convenience it is also mirrored below. Be sure to scroll past it for the images, as well as the shout outs from this episode.

*Note some of these images were used after the recording for a Joedeclassified presentation at Coil Con 6. Thanks for letting me and James Kavanaugh do the presentation, it was an honor to be involved. I apologize to Pat, and to all of you, for the long time it took me to edit this.

Pat is also involved with both Joe Declassified and Yojoe. Both are wonderful sources of information on Joe.

If you like this kind of information, and are interested in the original 3 3/4 ” Joes check out Dan K’s Kickstarter for a book with even more never before seen images and info about the 80’s masterpiece that was G.I.Joe A Real American Hero.

Dig art? Check out Carson of 3DJoe’s Kickstarter for books collecting the art of G.I.Joe.

The Folks of Roma Collectibles are friends of mine, and I had a blast at the Ohio Toy and Comic Show,  Give their FB Pages a like, and seriously consider coming out next year.

Also Springboro Hobby has an ebay store with plenty of great items .Tell them I sent you!

(We also reference a previous that contains images, our first one! check it out here)

POC Beachead Test Shot that was customized on by Hasbro Employee

If you were at the wonderful Coil Con 6 and stopped by the Joe Declassified booth you already saw this small little piece. I picked it off a freebie pile at the unofficial custom class for Joe Con 2013 in Indy.  Erik Arana and Andrew Franks, now of  Boss Fight, where there and only recently out of Hasbro. They threw out a pile of parts and I grabbed this guy.

I knew right away that I hadn’t seen that torso in that color, and I could place the legs as an ROC SE that came with a rerelease of the Arashakage battle playset and a single resolute trooper arm.

Eventually after neither Pat (not picard) or James Kavanaugh Jr. could ID it  I contacted Erik in hopes of finding out it was a planned repaint or something, but was still thrilled to discover he had just been customizing on it. Hard for some of us to believe, the way prototypes, test shots, etc. are sought after by collectors.

You can see a few more images below or you can go to our facebook album HERE to see them together and while you are there give them some likes!

TLS Snake-Eyes, 83 sticker style digibash.

stickersheetwithconceptsecloseup

(Slightly updated) Here is an image from a 1983 Sticker sheet which  fans have theorized contained an early or original design for Snake-Eyes. Further discussion has revealed slightly conflicting information in the Joe discussion group, it sounds like he was always intended to come in black but grey highlights may have been cut or may not have depending on who you ask. This black look was a nod to the S.A.S. and does appear to be have been planned. Thus despite fan theory (and one I believed until recently, and I even discussed with Gary Head on the old nerdversity 101 podcast) it appears this should more accurately be called “Sticker” Snake-Eyes instead of “concept” Snake-Eyes, especially if we use concept in the exact same way as we do with blowtorch, although broadly it could be called the sticker company’s concept for a design of SE, but it’s definitely not the original.

Those who stopped by the Declassified panel at Coil Con saw my copy of the sticker sheet (which has some other cool gems on it too)

Beneath is my recreation of the color scheme using Joe Allard’s designs for the The Loyal Subjects Snake-Eyes. I choose to keep the grey as the sticker had but toned it down. The ungloved hands are from the upcoming Dusty. Expect the real figures in November and check out the full gallery of them HERE.

And we recently did a full podcast interview with the designer Joe Allard you can listen to HERE.

conceptcasese

I am not thrilled with the camo, but this was my first time doing it, learned a lot along the way and I think It will turn out better next time.

Let the TLS Crew know if you like it HERE  and Jonathan and crew already have my blessing to use it, they just need to make sure I can get one haha! I think it would go nicely with my concept art blowtorch (See HERE)

For comparison sake:

Still one more cool TLS related thing coming up in the next few days. Keep your eyes out and be sure to follow us on twitter/ and like on fb so you don’t miss out.

Concept Art Digital Custom/repaint of The Loyal Subjects Blowtorch

theloyalsubjectsdigibashblowtorchinconceptcolorscheme

A bit back when we interviewed Jonathan Cathey on the Nerdrahtio Podcast (HERE) he mentioned that Blowtorch was  one of his favorites, and was in wave 2, and I instantly thought of this repaint potential. Here is! You may also realize that Hasbro is also putting out a figure based on this concept. Below you can find the concept art, first broke by Joe Declassified (Give them a like on Facebook HERE) and originally shared on Hisstank.  and I believe this image came from Bill Merkline’s personal collection from his time at Hasbro, (No clue who owns it now, if I need to credit someone else PLEASE let me know!)

check out the images below and if you like it and want to see it, be sure to let the Loyal Subjects know on their official FB group HERE:

garyThis episode was recorded and fast tracked in editing, as our friend Gary Goggles Head passed away and we wanted to share some of our memories, in his honor. Me(Sam) and Tom are Joined by Jay Hunger from the Moderately Geeky Podcast, and Brian “Nova” Kauffman of casting fame and Joe Declassified. The History of G.I.Joe: Gary “Gyre-Viper” Goggles fills us in on the birth of A Real American Hero

gi-joe

Join Sam (me) and Aaron as they look at 50 years of GI Joe. This time, they’re joined by Gary “Goggles” Head AKA Gyre-Viper from JoeDeclassified and the JDSO podcast. In this episode, we take a look at the origins of the 1980s relaunch of GI Joe: A Real American Hero, retouching quickly on the 12″ iteration’s origin. Gary lends us his brain, Aaron fills us in on a few things that were happening in Europe at the same time with Action Force, and finally Aaron asks both Gary and Sam about the future of the brand. This is an extravaganza of awesome Joe stuff. You can listen to it bellow in the embedded audio player. Sadly Gary Head passed after this recording. He was incredibly supportive in the relaunch to Nerdrahtio and had planned to return to discuss more topics, including an episode one of his favorite comics Age of Apocalypse. He is missed daily by children, their mother, family and friends.

You can hear more from Gyre-Viper @ jdso.podbean.com (Link currently not working)
You can also participate in awesome Joe discussion in the G.I.Joe Discussion Facebook page.

UPDATE:

This post has been updated to reflect the split that occurred and ultimately lead to this website changing from nerdversity.com to Nerdrahtio.com and Nerdversity101 continuing on with Aaron and Alex and me (Sam) Gaining Tom as a co-anchor on the podcast, and retaining control of the website’s content and designs.  There was drama, but that appears to be down, I received an apology, and we are moving on.
