Son of Kwinn Custom based off of unused artwork!

blueboardN Joe Custom Critques Facebook user Felix Stratton (Mercer is that you? ) has created the first custom (that I’m aware) based off the images released by Sam Wells right here on Nerdrahtio.

See them mirrored below (with permission) /home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/e43/44850936/files/2015/01/img_6224.jpg

Felix says it’s still a WIP in progress, and we look forard to the finished result, but it looks great already!

Here is the original art (we believe is from Draxhall Jump)

below to compare it too:

Nerdrahtio interviews Sam Wells, former DDP Staff and G.I.Joe Writer

gijoe-sm-brazil_00_00_1179514102Join  Sam (Sears) and Aaron as they chat with Sam Wells. Sam lived a dream. In this interview we discuss his internship at Devils Due Publishing and how this G.I.Joe fan ended up writing a Special Missions Brazil story inspired by the original figures. We also discuss his other work within the company including touching on his work with the filecards and the DDP era of G.I.Joe in general

If you active in the G.I.Joe Group Discussion, or the community, you may know Sam Wells as Queelock, or as Toy De Jour. He also recently made some news by sharing some concept art (shown below)

It’s a short one, but a good one, and hope to have Sam back soon (to talk about the concept art and more) you can listen to the episode  embedded below or use the drop down menu above to navigate to Itunes on Stitcher to subscribe for easy mobile listening.

Sam Wells is currently running a toy store in Chicago called Toy De Jour, give him  a like on facebook,  or visit his store’s site to see what he is up to.

None of the four shown above were released. These appear to be from the JVC/Spytroops/VVV era. Son of Kwinn would eventually become Ghost Bear in VVV and look completely different. Serpentor’s design shares the design of the Spytroops Shipwreck disguise, and in the lower right you can see DTC Scrap Iron and the disguise gear for Burnout, the new Dreadnok from that era.

Personally I love this look for all 4 shown.

and look forward to having Sam back to explain them. -Sam (Sears)

(Note this post was updated with the current audio host’s listing. Aaron left, and he and I have no affiliation with each other any longer, and we have rebranded as Nerdrahtio but have mutual use of our past podcast work together.)

Tiger Force set for Joe Con 2014 (Pic + Info thanks to John Stottman and Glenn P. Winkler

tigerforceThanks to the club tipping us off, we knew a tease would be attached to the retail version of the last con’s single comic issue. John Stottman took the pic, Glenn P Winkler determined that it was Tiger force via the background. Noted author James Kavanaugh pointed out the club bought the art of the Baroness sometime ago, and it has been used in the past and likely doesn’t reflect contents of the set.

All three of those lovely folks, as well as myself and many others are in the G.I.Joe Discussion Group on FB, and that’s where much of the conversation is taking place. If you’re not there you should be, in addition of course to whatever group your already enjoying.

Thoughts:

I’m not a fan of bright yellow, and have no real nostalgia to that subset. The villains are likely going to determine my enjoyment of the set itself (which aren’t likely to be connected to the grid pattern on them bottom, since that’s a TF ad, and someone else pointed this out in the FB group) I’ll admit to being somewhat found of the bizarre Tigerforce Outback with white hair, beyond that, I’ll probably be trying to trade them out or sell them. I’m hoping with picking something they know is divisive for the Joes they will throw in some more commonly desired Cobras to please the rest of us.

That said, the set isn’t the best part of the convention, it’s hanging with the friends in the hobby and chatting Joe, so I’ll enjoy the con itself rather or not I will enjoy the set.

Another thing of note, is that both Hasbro and IDW are listed as being present, which is unusual. Could Hasbro be presenting new product???

The G.I.Joe Millennium Falcon? (an amazing custom by Jeremy Hill found on Universal Joes)

The History of G.I.Joe: Gary “Gyre-Viper” Goggles fills us in on the birth of A Real American Hero

gi-joe

Join Sam (me) and Aaron as they look at 50 years of GI Joe. This time, they’re joined by Gary “Goggles” Head AKA Gyre-Viper from JoeDeclassified and the JDSO podcast. In this episode, we take a look at the origins of the 1980s relaunch of GI Joe: A Real American Hero, retouching quickly on the 12″ iteration’s origin. Gary lends us his brain, Aaron fills us in on a few things that were happening in Europe at the same time with Action Force, and finally Aaron asks both Gary and Sam about the future of the brand. This is an extravaganza of awesome Joe stuff. You can listen to it bellow in the embedded audio player. For more of Sam, stay on this website and use the drop down menu above, for more from Aaron head to the new nerdversity101 page: http://nerdversity101podcasts.blogspot.co.uk/

Sadly Gary Head passed after this recording. He was incredibly supportive in the relaunch to Nerdrahtio and had planned to return to discuss more topics, including an episode one of his favorite comics Age of Apocalypse. He is missed daily by children, their mother, family and friends.

You can hear more from Gyre-Viper @ jdso.podbean.com (Link currently not working)
You can also participate in awesome Joe discussion in the G.I.Joe Discussion Facebook page.

UPDATE:

This post has been updated to reflect the split that occurred and ultimately lead to this website changing from nerdversity.com to Nerdrahtio.com and Nerdversity101 continuing on with Aaron and Alex and me (Sam) Gaining Tom as a co-anchor on the podcast, and retaining control of the website’s content and designs.  There was drama, but that appears to be down, I received an apology, and we are moving on.
