1983 Tokyo Toy Show video

A recent rare video surfaced on youtube of footage taken from the 1983 Tokyo Toy Show. The footage showed toys from Macross, Microman, Diaclone, Albegas and even a live action Super Sentai performance from Dynaman.

There’s truly something for every retro toy fan in this amazing 30 year old video:

Transformers IOS Legends review

Transformers Legends is powered by Mobage Games and is a card based rpg for mobile formats.

Hasbro at least must have been impressed, as they have an upcoming G.I.Joe Game in the works that is sad to be more similar to one of their other games, blood brothers, than the Transformers Legends.

20130609-140239.jpg

The main portion of the game is collecting cards via opening the space bridge. You can equip the weapon cards and transcan the vehicle and robot modes into single cards boosting their power. You can choose to battle other players or play a mission that involves card battles as well and other scanning and tapping activities.

While scanning a boss of the opposite faction (you may play as either Autobots or Decepticons) may appear and you will need tap their rockets to knock them down, this earns you points that levels you up. Each level has additional rewards such as more energy to spend. Continue reading

SDCC Transformers VS G.I.Joe set is up: Parts breakdown and commentary

autobot06_transformersAMERICANFLAG02USA Today has revealed numerous Hasbro SDCC exclusives, but the ones of most interest to me are those in TF vs. Joe set

So Here is  a quick rundown of the set (so far we know of no separate singles) with parts lists and commentary.

autobothound2013Parts list: The Classic Vamp now re deco’d as a G 1 Hound

Commentary: I’d much prefer this guy:

houndxoverThe classic Vamp is sad to say, Dated. While this probably a move to please vintage collectors, they already have plenty of Vamps to choose from. While the fan made image shows a vehicle that we have only seen in blue (at least with additional back panels)

Hasbro Continues Lay offs, What does this mean for our favorite brands?

5by5nSeibertron.com recently posted that Hasbro’s lay offs have continued. A combination of factors have lead to this, including the obvious shift to video games for many, rising production costs which now not only includes  oil prices but also increasing wage demands, lack of a TF movie, and a huge struggle with Paramount moving G.I.Joe.

It’s unfortunate, and my heart goes out to those who now find themselves unemployed. I was pleased to meet a few former Hasbro G.I.Joe designers at con that were really nice guys and had produced some amazing work and I wish them in particular, and all those leaving Hasbro the best in finding new positions in this hard economy.

But i can’t help wonder what does this mean for our favorite toys? So I thou

1. Transformers:

Recently many fans where shocked when Prime was going to be cut short and we would see a new branding after TF 4.  Execs know about layoffs before they happen, was this a related attempt to draw in new fans that were pleased with prime and to put more money towards TF 4? The TF movies, especially the first two, really  helped Hasbro with profits but they haven’t been able to capture that level of success in non movie years.

I think it’s likely related!

2. G.I.Joe

Poor G.I.Joe,  with Paramount moving the movie to post convert it the toyline was left in a mess. First it has been moved up to cover Star Trek, and so Hasbro rushed out inaccurate movie toys, then with the delay, Hasbro was left with no product on the shelves and let go most of their Joe team.  No Retaliation was a bigger financial success than Rise of Cobra, but what about the toys?  Next year marks the 50th anniversary of G.I.Joe and the action figure itself, but with no Joe team in place, and no confirmation that there will be any Joe toys at all next year and the rising cost of action figures, what comes next?

I suspect we will see some toys, but a very limited amount of them. Joe fans rebelled against reduced articulation figures, and that looks to be where Hasbro’s other lines are heading:

3. Marvel Toys:
See those Iron Man 3 toys with 5 points of articulation? Welcome to your new marvel! licensing is expensive and unfortunately for us these are moving on the pegs.I’m speculating Marvel Universe figures will officially die this year with collectors getting their ML’s and kids getting unarticulated 4 ”

4. Star Wars:

Similar to Marvel, new collector oriented 6″ line, and the 4″ guys are going to continue parts re-use,repaints, and reduced articulation.

5. Hub

This is my big worry, I’m worried the Hub is not working out as Hasbro as hoped I’m very curious to see what happens here.

5 Transformers (photoshoped) I wished actually existed! (and a bonus)

autobot06_transformersAMERICANFLAG02I grew up with the original Transformers, often called Generation 1 or “G 1” today.  When Optimus and Megaton had their epic duel in the animated movie, i was riveted and emotional exhausted by the outcome. As an 80’s kid, that movie was my Hamlet, and the show in general was often my philosophy class as well (“Freedom is the right of all sentient beings.”)

I’m not the only one, and the internet has been kind enough to take it’s photoshop skills and propose some excellent Photoshopped crossover transformers that I deeply want. In Advance i want to say these aren’t my work and that i have collected them from image sites, or message boards over the years, and if you know who made them, let us know!

#5 + 4 BatBotmobiles

740086_403389586413597_202539700_oThe Tumbler looks like it could fit right into a Bay’s take on transformers, even in vehicle mode. The classic look is a little more my style with a slight flair of color to make it pop.
what i’d really love to see his a mock up of one from the Keaton movies.  Why should Marvel have all the fun transformer crossovers anyways?

# 3 Spock Prime

trek-formersOh the beauty! It’s made even better knowing that Leneord Nimory also forced Galvatron for the original animated movie, and Sentinel Prime in Dark of the Moon.  I’d buy it in a heart beat, and Hasbro even has the Star Trek License at the moment!

# 2 Hound as a G.I.Joe Vehicle

houndxoverSorry it’s not real.  Although i wish Hasbro would steal this idea. For a few years now Hasbro has been making Joe scale vehicles that are actually transformers in disguise, so far it’s only been Decepticons (Starscream, Shockwave, a little Megatron gun, and the Soundwave boom box w/ tapes) While they don’t transform it’s an excellent crossover for fans of both properties. Optimus prime could possibly be done with one of the larger vehicles, but it would look out of place, Hound however? He fits perfectly, give him Clutch the original Joe driver and grease monkey and we are good to go.

#1 the Tardis Transformed

tardistransformerWord’s can’t express the awesome, it just needs a little fez! I’d buy one in a heartbeat! Okay Hasbro UK, you even had a UK original transformers comics, get to cracking on working out a deal here.

And lastly a bonus:

My little robony.

1351838971116I can’t say that i’d be the one to purchase this, but i know friends who would, and shockingly there are several of these floating around. Hasbro owns the rights, maybe it’s time to draw some girls into the transformer fandom?

Let us know what you think of these dream TFs, as well as any photoshoped images you may have found on our forums HERE.  Or Join the the general transformers talk in the Transforum section of our forums.
